'Farmstead' is the name of a newly launched farm-to-fridge grocery delivery service for the San Francisco Bay Area that offers convenience to consumers and prioritizes reducing waste in the grocery industry.
Although there are many places groceries can be purchased online, Farmstead sets itself apart with an artificial intelligence system to learn and predict habits. As such, the system is able to determine how much food should be ordered on a daily, weekly, seasonal or annual basis.
In place of using a large warehouse, Farmstead ships its goods from micro-warehouses in the Bay Area and has its drivers send on algorithmically calculated routes that are eco-friendly. As Farmstead CEO and co-founder Pradeep Elankumaran says: "In 2017, consumers shouldn't have to drive to the store, stand in a line, and buy food of questionable quality which then goes to waste." Farmstead offers a way for consumers to make fewer trips to the store, while also reducing waste and pollution.
