The FacePause Extension Uses Chrome's Built-In Tracking Software

The FacePause extension utilizes intricate facial tracking to know exactly when you are staring at your screen and pausing YouTube videos the second you look away. Created by German developer Mattias Hemmingsson, this clever extension was built using Google Chrome's FaceDetector API and was done as an experiment to test Chrome's new technology, rather than be an extension used every day.

The FacePause extension is currently available on Chrome's web store and works competently in its current state. The extension does work mostly as advertised, though some issues remain as the FacePause extension does struggle to detect faces occasionally, causing videos to stutter. The extension will, of course, require connection to a webcam and it does not function on mobile at this time.
