Facial recognition technology is paving the way for face check-ins, which is being pioneered by ad agency Redpepper through its Facedeals project. The agency is currently testing a facial-scanning camera, attached to the exterior of a business located in Nashville, that can scan a person's face and then check them into the business via Facebook.
According to Redpepper, the Facedeals face check-ins will make check-ins and branded promotions more efficient, giving people an instanteous way to check into an establishment and subsequently receive special deals from that business. All you have to do is connect initially through Facebook in order to give Facedeals access to your Facebook data, as well as to verify your photo tags and analyze your facial features. Then, according to Redpepper, the system will "use the existing data to identify you in the real world."
