Breast Feeding Addictions

According to internet buzz, Selma Hayek told Britain’s Style magazine that she is addicted to breast feeding her daughter Valentina who was born in 2007.

"I’m like an alcoholic. It is like, I don’t care if I cry, I don’t care if I am fat, I am just going to do it for one more week, one more month, and then when I see how much good it is doing her and I can’t stop."

In many cultures, it isn’t considered odd or unusual to breast feed well into a child’s third to fifth year. Hayek’s mind-set speaks volumes as to Western views of what constitutes just how long a person should nurse their child.

Although I think, "to each their own," when it comes to the issue of bottle vs. breast-feeding, I do think breast milk is best, and am not at all fond of the notion that extended breast-feeding is "odd or strange."

Breast-feeding even just a while helps boost a baby's immunity to diseases they may encounter later in life and benefits them even more if done for longer periods of time. 

Salma is not alone in her extended breast-feeding endeavors, many parents who follow Natural and Attachment Parenting philosophies are doing the same exact thing.
