Spanish designer Jaime Hayon recently added to Spanish design label Expormim's Frames collection with wicker furniture. Hayon contributed a series of rattan furniture including a dining chair, dining armchair and a low armchair. Expormim specializes in the craft of wicker furniture and this series is all completely constructed from rattan. The main form of the chairs takes on the silhouette of two curvaceous frames of the palm-stem material. These act as a foundation for a plaited wicker crafted from peeled and colored rattan, resulting in a seat and a backrest.
The rattan chairs are adaptable to both indoor and outdoor environments and are finished in three different coatings -- there is a dyeing process, a base coat and a top coat to tie it all together. In addition, the finish also has a UV filter to protect the furniture from sun damage. The chairs are made in 11 different colors including navy blue, forest green and Japanese red.
