At some point or other, everyone has experienced what stress feels like in the body but Cigna set out to help people experience stress by seeing it differently, as visualized by a mix of data, technology and art. McCann worked with Cigna, alongside doctors, technologists and artists to create a visual system for showing stress in the mind and body. The teams settled upon a fluid visual that moves freely like water or smoke but can also transition from moving effortlessly to more turbulence and chaos.
With headsets to measure brainwaves, the team created a series of colorful portraits to represent how stress shows up in the body. While someone who is completely at peace is represented by a free-flowing blue silhouette, someone who is experiencing a high state of stress is captured with fast-moving red, orange and yellow swirls.
