Tokyo Dog's 'Junni Ban' sandwich currently holds the world record for most expensive hot dog. The sandwich will set patrons back $169 thanks to its artisanal ingredients that include fois gras, maitake mushrooms, wagyu beef and shaved black truffles. The signature recipe is also topped with smoked cheese bratwurst, butter teriyaki grilled onions and even caviar.
The expensive hot dog is described as 100 times pricier than the common street meat snack and was created by Tokyo Dog founder Eugene Woo and collaborators Samson Kwong and Rocky Weh.
Appealing to extreme foodies, Tokyo Dog's decadent hot dog is a gourmet take on fast food. As consumers grow more conscious of fast food's negative health effects, their indulgences in caloric meals are becoming rarer but more elaborate and experiential.
