Sleek Sustainable Energy Skyscrapers

SOM Designs Iconic 99 Story Energy Tower in Jakarta

The Jakarta skyline will soon have a new landmark in the year 2020, as American architectural design firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) has designed and created the headquarters for energy company Pertamina. The 99 story-high 'Pertamina Energy Tower' located in Jakarta is a 530 meter-high structure that will tower over all the buildings in Indonesia.

It is twice as high as Wisma 46, currently the tallest building in Indonesia. The building was designed to appeal to the ideals of sustainable design, with a wind funnel incorporated into the design located at the top of the structure to convert wind into usable electricity and energy for the entire building.

Not only is the building strikingly sleek, it is also fully functional. Even down to its geographic location, the structure is built to regulate the internal temperature of the building throughout the 365 days of the year.
