Colorful Kinder Schools

Palatre & Leclere Make a Coloring Book Come to Life

French architects Palatre & Leclere successfully managed to capture a child's imagination in their redesign of the Ecole Maternelle Pajol in Paris. First, they restored the building to its original design from the 1940s, then went all "Crayola" on it.

The street side is modest; a traditional-looking building with a small splash of color. But once inside, visitors are treated to bold colors and shapes strewn across the brick wall and straight-line designs. A rainbow theme is obvious throughout the entire structure, which houses four kindergarten classrooms, a playground, a dining room, a kitchen, a library and restrooms.

The redesign of the building is part of an initiative for the renewal of the 18E district in Paris.
