The Dior Spring/Summer 2021 Haute Couture showcase called Le Château du Tarot was presented for Paris’ Haute Couture Week and for the collection, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri was inspired by tarot cards. The ethereal designs were heavily influenced by one of the oldest surviving tarot decks known, the Visconti-Sforza tarot deck from 15th-century edition from Milan, Italy.
The film that accompanies the release of the collection stars a woman who seeks guidance from a tarot reader and her journey through a castle introduces her to many tarot figures. Symbols from the Major Arcana can be seen throughout the collection, as characters embody cards like the Moon, Temperance and Death.
Chiuri notes that Christian Dior himself once sought solace from the tarot at a time he was anxious about his missing sister during World War II.
