Studies suggest there are more than 40,000 people in Alberta living with dementia, so the Tudor Manor in Okotoks, Alberta has now applied for funding from the provincial government for a community-wide dementia management solution.
While Tudor Manor already houses 26 residents with dementia, new training for the entire community is set to make it a safe place for all at risk. The plan is to make it possible for elderly citizens to continue to live at home, amongst a community that is sensitized to people living with dementia.
In order to make this feasible as a community-wide project, the vision is to have certain people like librarians, bank tellers, grocery store clerks and more trained to aid members of the community who need assistance.
