The Custom Chandelier by Naomi Paul is a sculptural knit light that gets its form from knotting fabric around a series of metal rings. The body of the chandelier is formed from a long red crocheted sleeve, but instead of covering an arm, the tube is designed to slip over the lighting fixture. Although the lighting piece seems like it would be large and cumbersome to ship, the soft nature of the material enables it to flatpack.
With new lighting technology on the market that's not as sensitive to heat, this has opened up huge possibilities for designers that want to include materials like paper and soft textiles in their designs. The Custom Chandelier will be on display in September for 100% Design London.
