Curlicue Ceiling Lights

Curly Wooden Lamps Artistically Express Carpenters' Beautiful Byproduct

The idea behind these curly wooden lamps comes from the consequence of carpenters' work. When using metal tools to pare down lumber planks, woodworkers will produce excess material in the form of spiraling shavings.

Elaborating on these gorgeous shapes, Storyboard Furniture of Toronto designed the Plane Cloud pendant lamps, composed as globes of timber ringlets that appear to twist and knot together in quite a neat fashion. Influence from Scandinavian design caused the manufacturers to finish one side of each steam-bent strip in a traditional soap surface, with the other made vibrant by liquitex paint.

Although these curly wooden lamps are contrived and contemporary, their natural allusions in form are strengthened through fabrication. These intricate hanging lights are made from sustainable materials recovered from the local urban forest.
