Circular Hidden Santuaries

The Cuernavaca Ecumenical Chapel by BNKR Arquitectura is a True Haven

The Cuernavaca Ecumenical Chapel could pass for many things but a religious sanctuary. This is due in large part to its semi-recessed design, modern aesthetic and, most notably, its lack of religious insignia. Yet like the chapel designed by AOA Architects, it celebrates serenity and nature, which arguably makes people feel closer to the higher being they are trying to connect with.

Designed by BNKR Arquitectura, the Cuernavaca Ecumenical Chapel aims to strike a balance between life and death. As a person walks the gently descending spiral ramp, they are encouraged to leave their worries above ground so as to better practice meditation and contemplation below. It is a private commission located in the client’s yard. The top is home to a shallow pond.
