Architecture firm CREUSeCARRASCO Arquitectos have reimagined a staircase that belongs to the ancient pilgrimage known as the Camino de Santiago.
The starting point of the Camino's Serpentine Route begins at the sacred hill known as Monte de Gozo - where a long and steep staircase once confronted travelers. Unfortunately, this unfavorable architectural design made the route less accessible for wheelchairs, bicycles, or horseback. For this reason, CREUSeCARRASCO Arquitectos have turned this decrepit staircase into a curving concrete ramp.
The ramp creates a clear path for all pilgrims. It is slopped at a gentle incline, allowing travelers to observe the city below and take in the surrounding natural landscape. The ramp is built with a mixture of concrete and stone and sits harmoniously on Monte de Gozo hill.
