Japan Created a Contact Tracing App with Apple and Google

Japan is launching a contact tracing app, which will be available to users this week after it was initially scheduled for a release in May. The contact tracking app was developed by Microsoft developers at the request of the Japanese government, and it was created with technology from Apple and Google.

The app is named COCOA, which stands for COVID-19 Contact-Confirming Application, and it operates using Bluetooth data which can detect other devices within a meter of space for over 15 minutes. Following a positive COVID-19 test, the app will notify all other users that came into close contact with the positive Case. As more people use the app the effectiveness will increase.
