Communal Rooftop Spaces

This Student and Faculty Housing Features a Social Rooftop Area

The residential and educational 'SL11024' housing complex by Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects is made with several different communal rooftops to help improve the quality of life for its tenants.

The wedge-shaped building is located near UCLA in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles and is split into two separate volumes. Communal rooftop spaces were heavily integrated into the design to help provide gathering spaces for tenants, and also to help promote community building amongst the residents living there.

Each floor level of this sloped multi-layered complex is granted access to an outdoor gathering area. Painted in green and featuring an extensive focus on communal spaces, this outdoor complex is specifically designed to create a more connected and natural urban area.
