Known for his incredible photography, Clayton Cubitt decided to push himself artistically and tackle the look of the Samurai.
Using a strict monochromatic palette, he was able to evoke a lot of feeling out of this series. The model is in extensive outfits that perfectly represent the garments that would have been worn by samurais. One of the most interesting features of the series is the emotion expressed, especially considering in most pictures the model's face was covered. The vibe of the shoot is tough, and the armor and head pieces alluded to the traditional aspect of the series.
Ink was also sprayed onto the pictures. This ink covered up some of the photo, which is usually a 'no-no,' however, this added dimension and furthered the theme of the series.
Clayton Cubitt has been able to create an eerie, yet very traditional shoot, and was able to modernize the concept with a bit of ink.
