Artist Troy Hyde created a series of animated pictures called 'Lightscapes' that capture the energy of cities in GIFs. The collection takes a nighttime bird's eye view of illuminated cities as they buzz with energy. Hyde chose to use GIFs in order to show the flickering lights in each metropolis and accurately portray the cities' vibrancy.
The pictures were created by zooming into satellite images. Hyde chose large cities from around the world such as Las Vegas, London, Antwerp, Madrid and Hong Kong.
Lightscapes was created in order to reflect on the human condition. According to Hyde, "The impact of human industry is visible; the work captures a contemporary, transient vision of earth which is different from it’s past and will inevitably change."
