Alibaba Group and Marriott International are coming together to implement a facial recognition check-in technology pilot program as a convenient option for Chinese travelers.
The facial recognition check-in pilot incorporates Fliggy, Alibaba’s travel service platform, and boasts the ability to provide a seamless check-in experience that takes less than a minute. To use the system, guests at the Hangzhou Marriott Hotel Qianjiang and Sanya Marriott Hotel Dadonghai Bay will be able to scan their identification, take a photo and input their personal contact details via a machine. After this quick process is finished, hotel guests are then able to receive their room key straight from the machine.
Since research has shown that Chinese travelers are interested in new hotel technology, particularly related to facial recognition, Marriott hopes to ultimately implement a global rollout of this technology across all Marriott International properties.
