Canine-Friendly Christmas Cakes

A Japanese Bakery Makes Cakes Dogs Can Eat with Their Owners

Pet lovers can now enjoy Christmas with their lovely pooches with Christmas cakes dogs can eat.

Inspired by the declining birth rates in Japan, Japanese pastry chef and Italian restaurant owner Naohiko Nagatani feels that people are treating their pets more like children and hopes that they can celebrate the holidays together. In creating a cake that dogs can eat along with their owners, Naohiko Nagatani has omitted several ingredients humans love -- a necessary sacrifice -- including chocolate and alcohol and replaced flour with spelt, a wheat that the chef claims causes fewer allergies that its counterpart. The cake has gained so much popularity that even at $73 each, over 70 of them have been ordered this year by do owners.
