Carlana Mezzalira Pentimalli Designs the Brixen Public Library

Italian architectural studio Carlana Mezzalira Pentimalli designs the new Brixen Public Library found in South Tyrol, which fuses together old civic buildings together with contemporary angular structures for a juxtaposing look. It overlooks the central square in Brixen and the project blends together three former finance, prison buildings, and a court. The new addition can be found between two existing buildings and is complete with a pale finish flanked by two courtyards.

Carlana Mezzalira Pentimalli talks about the project, she states that "This is not a library intended as a large container of books – quite the opposite. It is a project deeply rooted in its context, designed to welcome and generate human relationships and exchanges, intertwining cultures, practices and people of different ages."
