Intentionally Breeding Deformities

‘Twisty Cats' Chosen for Inverted Elbows

Sometimes cats suffer from deformities which occur as an accident of nature, but some questionable breeders are now purposely breeding cats with deformities.

Twisty Cats are felines that are bred to have inverted elbows, a condition known as Radial Hypoplasia. Mildly affected cats get around okay, but in severe cases the cat will have entirely non-functioning front paws.

A website has been set up to make people aware of this issue and hopefully stop breeders from engaging in such cruelty.
Trend Themes
1. Ethical Breeding Practices - The public's demand for ethically bred cats will disrupt the cat breeding industry and force breeders to focus on animal welfare.
2. Gene Editing for Deformity Correction - Advancements in gene editing technology will create an opportunity for corrective gene editing for animals born with deformities.
3. Increase in Pet Ownership - As pet ownership continues to increase, ethical breeding practices and animal welfare will become a more pressing issue for the industry.
Industry Implications
1. Pet Breeding - The pet breeding industry must adopt ethical practices and implement stricter regulations to prevent intentional breeding of deformities in cats and other animals.
2. Gene Editing and Biotechnology - As gene editing continues to advance, this technology can be used to correct deformities and improve animal welfare in the pet industry.
3. Animal Welfare Advocates - Animal welfare advocates will bring attention to the issue of unethical pet breeding practices and drive demand for responsible animal breeding practices.
