Interactive Injustice Sculptures

This Blood Donation Awareness Stunt Advocates for Gay Men

#PutRedBack is a Twitter-powered installation that was set up for the London Design Festival 2015 to address blood donation awareness issues. In particular, this installation reminds that gay men in the UK can't give blood unless they've abstained from having sex for a year.

In order to raise awareness about this injustice, Cheil UK launched an installation that would collect 100,000 tweets in order to force parliament to change the laws on this issue.

Each time the #PutRedBack hashtag is used, a drop of red liquid falls into a vessel, symbolizing the amount of potential donations that are going to waste. The entire sculpture mimics the shape of a rainbow flag, and only when filled does the red-colored stripe return to the flag.
