Billboards in the subway are a traditional form of advertising and these marketing techniques can prove to be quite effective as they capture commuters at a time where they want to be distracted. Swedish retail giant IKEA is opening smaller stores to appeal to the urban consumer and the company is utilizing its ever-clever retail strategy to appeal to the masses.
The new IKEA location in Paris is on La Madeleine and it opened on May 6th. To announce this, the furniture brand revolutionized the way marketing billboards in the subway work. It outfitted the entire Madeline metro station as a showroom. More than 1,500 individual products were hanging on the wall, demanding the attention of the urban commuter.
