California-based Kennerly Architecture & Planning group created the new Bill Sorro Community, an affordable housing option in San Francisco. Named after Bill Sorro, a social and economic justice activist, this new building was created in the heart of the Sixth Street Lodging House District.
The building used to hold the Hugo Hotel, which closed because of a fire in 1988 -- it now holds eight studio apartments, 23 one-bedroom, 25 two-bedroom and 10 three-bedroom units. All apartments are for individuals and families that earn between 40% and 50% below the area of median income.
With a community room, common garden and other common spaces, the new Bill Sorro Community was created with modern and high-end design features.
