The Beijing-based architecture studio BLUE completed the build of the BAN Villa Hotel in the Jijiadun Village. Located approximately 1.5 hours by car from Shanghai, the village is now equipped with a nature-infused riverside hotel that appears to float in the distance.
The hotel is surrounded by a small river on a rectangular site. The local government invited the architects to revitalize the village in an effort to encourage visitors and tourism. Each building in the complex is designed in varying rectangular shapes and clad in fresh white siding. Urbanization in China is leading to a hollowing-out of its rural areas. The architects aimed to introduce creative industries into the village while respecting the rural landscape and retaining the area's vitality.
