Atelier Pierre Thibault designs a new home located right in Montreal and it is highlighted by the sculptural staircase. The residence is by the city's Plateau Mont-Royal neighborhood, which is a residential area that is known for its easy walkability and convenient amenities. A lot of the surrounding homes have entrance porches and more staircases that spiral around the exterior for the harsh winters in the city.
However, it is now no longer allowed so Atelier Pierre Thibault places the staircase inside connecting to the upper floor. The studio states, "The project aims to highlight the Plateau Mont-Royal's context by reflecting its values, energy, and building features, [The staircase] is like a contemporary architectural ornament, designed as a focal point of the residence."
