An Austrian Concrete House Celebrates Cubism in a Green Way

A wonderful concrete built house in Frohnleiten, Austria is certainly green, but not in the usual context -- it is an astroturf house! The architectural firm, Weichlbaeur Ortis covered the cubism inspired house with plenty of fake grass, at times blending the astroturf house in with the natural background.

Their clever use of decorative concrete staircases (many of which don't go anywhere) is also abstract art-inspired. The angular lines of the house are even further reinforced with window frames jutting out at right angles. At certain angles, the astroturf house seems to be floating. The overall visual effect of the astroturf house is rather like stepping into a Picasso!
