The Brooklyn Central Library, located along the Grand Army Plaza, has returned to emphasize the striking art deco building it resides in after New York City-based architect Toshiko Mori was commissioned to partake in a multi-stage revitalization project.
Originally, the Brooklyn’s Central Library opened back in 1941. About the project, Toshiko Mori shares: "[The library’s] mission of providing knowledge for free to everyone is now enhanced by increased physical and visual access to its resources." As part of the plan, existing features and services were refurbished, while the administrative areas of the library were turned into public zones. Toshiko Mori used a variety of materials when revamping the art deco building—from welcoming honey-toned oak and bold metal accents to elegant bronze and whimsical terrazzo elements.
