Riken Yamamoto wins an international competition with his hilly architectural museum design. Appropriately named 'The Hill,' the construction is "defined by a sloping green roof" that is host to artwork, pavilions and an indoor theater. The framework of the building is created to satisfy the needs and aesthetic of the Taoyuan Museum of Art in Taiwan, as well as to establish a "symbolic getaway to the heart of the city."
The museum design combines natural motifs with art history. While the slanted roof incorporates a green garden with commercial space for additional exhibitions and selling artwork, the inside of the structure — dubbed 'The Cube,' is a place for the Taoyuan Museum of Art's permanent collections.
