Contemporary Angular Extensions

Kaplan Thompson Architects Focus on the Simplicity in Geometry

Kaplan Thompson Architects updates a traditional farmhouse-style New England home from the 1980s with a contemporary angular extension that is linked to the original structure via a bright and cheery yellow volume.

While the colorful nuance brings a bit of a modern character to the home, the two-storey angular extension is designed to increase interior space by adding two more bedrooms, some technical spaces and a staircase to the home. Kaplan Thompson Architects focus their efforts on sustainability by creating a "net-zero-energy construction" via a range of photovoltaic panels, found on the roof of the contemporary angular extension.

It seems that for the renovation of this 80s-built house, Kaplan Thompson Architects focused on the properties of color and the principles of sustainability to produce a noticeable and ethical design.
