Christopher Simmonds Architect designed the 'Dunrobin Shore' residence, a contemporary house located in Ottawa, Canada.
When it came to designing this modest residence, the architects focused on creating a simple, open space. They installed a wall of glass that extends past the living, dining and kitchen areas, offering the residents a view of the river. This view is further enhanced by an unassuming porch, whose roof has been opened to establish a relationship with the nature surrounding it. The cantilevered deck is enclosed by frameless glass, extending the living area so that it becomes an "experience of the landscape" that offers many options in terms of sun, shade and view.
Inside and out, the home creates a juxtaposition between the natural and industrial, using a variety of materials. For instance, a bamboo staircase contrasts against a sleek concrete floor.
