3D artist Aiman Akhtar has created this 3D-printed Halloween costume that pushes the concept of the DIY costumes to its limits.
Akhtar was commissioned to create a 3D-printed Halloween costume tutorial by 3D Magazine for an upcoming December issue. A project four months in the making, Akhtar wanted to create a costume that could only be achieved using a 3D printer. The design features complex honeycomb elements and interwoven spaces that are incorporated into the costume to resemble an alien-like high fashion piece.
Modeled by Jessica dru Johnson, the costume consists of an arching bone white breast and back plate, decorated with a series of illuminated fiber optic lighting cables that are capable of changing colors. To complete the look, Johnson was given alien-like makeup prosthetics to cover her eyebrows, and her hair was actually styled and wrapped over foam core.
