French calligraphic artist, Julien Breton and his photographic collaborator, Guillaume J. Plisson have created some pretty amazing light calligraphy. Their work could also be called illuminated 3-D space writing or air painting. They used a combination of different LED light sources like glow sticks in conjunction with and time lapse photography techniques to create their work.
The pictures were taken in situ - with a watery reflection, against walls and different landscapes or against a starry night sky. No retouching and no Photoshop work was used.
More light calligraphy photos can be seen on Plisson’s Flickr page and in the video. There is also a book called "LightGraff" available (details are on Breton’s website).
Breton has been passionate about Latin calligraphy since he was 5. He expresses his artistic talent entirely through this medium. Breton also draws his inspiration from Arabic, Chinese and Japanese calligraphy.
