When tasked with building two houses onto a narrow strip of seaside land in Puertecillo, Chile, 2DM Architects came up with a unique solution. Rather than building two diminutive abodes side by side, the Chilean studio chose to maximize the available space by stacking the homes on top of one another.
Part of the cleverness of the two houses in Puertecillo is that each of the stacked units has a different view of the ocean despite being incredibly similar architecturally. The homes are both rectangular prisms with two of the transverse walls being made up of windows, but the windows face in perpendicular directions. Because of the shape of the plot, both of these house still have excellent ocean views, even though the four total views offered are all different from one another.
