It’s not often that toys for young kids and eco-friendly concerns are two concepts that come together, but these ‘Yellow Label Kids’ bird rattles are a rare and much-appreciated exception.
‘Yellow Label Kids’ Bird Rattles are hand-knit from organic bamboo yarn, and are made in full accordance to international Fair Trade Standards by artists in women's collectives in Bangladesh. In this way not only are the toys a great and eco-friendly gift for young children, but also a socially conscious one as well.
"I started the Yellow Label Kids collection after leaving a corporate job to become a teacher, and then a mother," Yellow Label Kids co-founder Hillary Sciarillo says. "My son and many students inspired me to look for an alternative to mass-produced, commercial toys and clothing. I looked for items that would celebrate the beauty and simplicity of childhood.
"I was fortunate to connect with groups of artisans in different countries, mostly mothers themselves, who earn real living wages from the handcrafts they produce."
Yellow Label Kids is a member of the Fair Trade Federation and has been featured online and in print publications such as Chatelaine, Parents, Pregnancy & Newborn, Motering Bon Appetit, BabyTalk, Elle, Kiwi, and Baby Couture.
