The Montreal Museum of Art opened an exciting high-fashion exhibit this week called 'The World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk.' The appropriately titled showcase is the designer's first international exhibit and will showcase the various styles and influence behind his extensive body of work. The different sections of the show will chart the various influences of Gaultier -- from the Parisian streets to the world of science fiction -- that have shaped his development as a designer.
“First I didn’t want to make an exhibition because for me it was a funeral," said Gaultier, who noted that he didn’t want the installation to be an inert, linear display of his work. "The idea was to show what I wanted to say through the clothes.”
Exhibits such as these are a great way for fashionistas to celebrate historic designers and iconic styles that will continue to influence the runways and the streets.
