As part of its Handmade Exhibit, Wallpaper commissioned Joe Doucet to create a unique wine chiller design. But rather than making a standalone object, Doucet decided to create a whole series of wine chillers, which speaks more to the ritual of drinking wine as a whole.
The wine chillers are shaped just like a wine bottle that's been sliced a few inches away from the bottom. The containers provide ample room to set a wine bottle inside and the rest is left up to science—once inside, the cold seems to disappear thanks to processes like convection, conduction and radiation. Although the patterns and textures on the outside of the wine chillers may seem arbitrary, they were inspired by cold fronts, such as snow being disturbed by a cold wind.
