South Korean car parts company Hyundai Mobis has launched a prototype of a high-tech wheel module, an all-inclusive wheel concept that is capable of including a wide variety of traditional as well as futuristic automotive functions into a single wheel.
This particular wheel module allows drivers to take advantage of smart steering and braking from the wheel. By bringing together steering, acceleration, braking and suspension hardware into a standalone wheel unit, Hyundai also manages to do away with the need for mechanical connections. This offers the added advantage of allowing greater flexibility and possibilities in terms of vehicle designs, whilst also allowing for more seamless repair operations when needed.
Most recently demonstrated on the M.Vision 2GO concept delivery car, this wheel module could become a fixture of smart vehicles in the future.
