A resident of Ottawa developed a unique software program that allows anyone on the Net to control and program a unique pattern for Christmas Lights running live and in real time on this street of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. You can also add your house to the network.
"Anyone, anywhere in the world can select or change the current pattern or for that matter program their own pattern for their homes. Also, its possible for anyone to join the network, online, in real time but for this year it's probably too late. Built by a software developer, who engineered a web-controlled java software program that interfaces with an online website and database, and controls small relay boxes to operate our Christmas Lights. Because the system is "internet based", it's possible to add YOUR home to the network, and be in real-time synch anywhere in the world. Powered by a small Java program that runs with an Internet Network Time synch protocol that keeps everything running to the nearest 10 to 30 milliseconds."
Implications - The interaction of online and real-life events effectively blurs the lines of reality.
