Beirut-based designer Richard Yasmine created the 'Wake Up Call' series, which consists of handblown light bulbs resting on top of a bird's nest. Yasmine often incorporates natural forms into his projects as an act of placing attention on the environment and ecosystem. The Wake Up Call set's purpose is to raise awareness on the issue of climate change. The artist's intention was to alter people's perception of the environment, specifically the relationship humans have with animals and plants. Yasmine styles the lamps with abandoned bird nests and semi-precious rocks to indicate a message of recycling.
Yasmine also constructs the lamps with materials such as glass and brass as they are both fully recyclable and sustainable. Every bulb retains an organic shape due to the handblown and sandblasted process it goes through. Additionally, the semi-precious rocks were intricately chosen in order to find the ones that most resembled natural landscapes.
