Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy Assists With PTSD Treatments
Katie Cordrey — January 25, 2010 — Tech
Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy is an interactive computer simulation that allows behavioral health providers to expose PTSD patients to a traumatic environment in order to treat anxiety and post-traumatic stress.
The VRET is undergoing clinical trial using active-duty military personnel diagnosed with combat-related PTSD in order to compare the efficacy of the VRET treatment against other methodologies. If successful, the technology may have other service-related applications.
Similar technology has been used with 9/11 survivors, to treat phobias and manage pain.
The video shows a similar research program in the UK.
