Consumer electronics company Intel has announced the launch of its next-generation Thunderbolt, which, as of right now, has yet to have an official name.
According to the company, the new USB4 port technology can “deliver up to three times the capability of Thunderbolt 4.” In fact, Intel has stated that it will feature 80 gigabits per second speeds both ways, support for DisplayPort 2.1, compatibility with Thunderbolt 4 cables, and a speed mode that allows the port to deliver 120Gbps up and 40Gbps down. The new speed mode will certainly be useful for those uploading video content to their computers.
Intel has stated that further information regarding the next-generation Thunderbolt, as well as its formal brand name, will be made available sometime in 2023.
