A series of upcycled washing machine chairs entitled 'I used to be a washing machine' transform old technology into sleek furniture. Created by industrial designer Tony Grigorian, the DIY chairs repurpose parts of a washing machine to let you sit in style. Grigorian created a set of chairs for himself and then developed detailed instructions to help those with old washing machines make their own furniture.
Grigorian's washing machine chairs incorporate various parts of a single washing machine to form three chairs. Each piece of futuristic seating has a unique design that accentuates its origins. The designer created the chairs to show off the metallic structure and shine a spotlight on it.
Since washing machines are not very comfortable to sit on, Grigorian added foam. Slabs of aqua-colored material make up the seating parts of the chairs.
