Unicharm Corp., the Japanese daily goods maker, recently announced the brand will begin setting up a network to recycle soiled diapers. The plan will include 10 bases throughout Japan to collect and recycle used disposable diapers by the end of 2030.
The soiled diapers will be collected from babies and incinerated older people, with hopes to increase progress on diaper recycling while reducing carbon dioxide emissions. "In view of the increasing use of adult disposable diapers reflecting the aging society in Japan, Unicharm says it believes it is essential to collect used products more efficiently."
The brand has already created a special technology to recover pulp fibers from used diapers and clean them and plans to use the recycled pulp to create new products.
