'UberPASSPORT' is a new feature that helps users arrange long-distance rideshares. While the ride-sharing app has already come to dominate travel within cities, now the company is looking to take its services across the boarder.
The new UberPASSPORT feature will allow users to arrange a one-way trip from California all the way to Mexico. To book a trip, users simply have to select the Passport MX option. An Uber driver will then transport up to four passengers to Tijuana. The only caveat is that Uber is unable to arrange trips back across the boarder because the company only operates locally within Tijuana. Therefore, users will have to arrange a second driver to complete the rest of the trip.
While Uber's cross-boarder option may only work for certain types of travel, the new feature demonstrates one of the unique ways the company is looking to expand its platform.
