Toronto's winter Stations competition brings together designs for temporary beach installations across the city's lakeshore. This year, designers were tasked to create structures that encourage people to explore the outdoors. Overall, six designs -- three of which are student proposals --were chosen for the temporary structures along Woodbine Beach.
Each design required to interact with the existing lifeguard stands on the beach. One installation called the Hive is a domed structure based on the hexagonal shape of a bee colony. The S'winter Station pavilion by students at Ryerson University acts as a shelter from harsh weather conditions. Other installations include Melt, Enter Face, and the Wildlife Guard Chair. Finally, the One Canada pavilion is dedicated to the Indigenous peoples of Canada.
