Tidal, a Norwegian music streaming service backed by Jay-Z, has announced the launch of its first-ever Tidal Free subscription plan, which will be available exclusively in the United States.
Up until now, Tidal had only offered paid options for its premium music service that boasted high-resolution audio (up to 1411kbps) and access to exclusive content. According to the company, the new Tidal Free plan will provide users access to the service's entire catalog of music. However, the plan is an ad-sponsored tier, meaning users' listening experience will be interrupted by occasional ads, and the streaming quality within the plan tops out at 160kbps.
In addition, the company has added a third-tier ultra-premium plan called Tidal HiFi Plus. This plan will cost users $19.99 a month and provide them with the “best-in-class immersive sound formats,” including only 360 Audio tracks and Dolby Atmos.
