The Tower in Arles, France is Designed for Luma Arles Arts Campus
Elena Rahman — July 5, 2021 — Art & Design
The Tower is located in Arles, France. Designed by architect Frank Gehry, the building acts as the Luma Arles arts campus centerpiece. Photographer Iwan Baan captured the Tower's uniquely paneled exterior and the intricately designed interior features to showcase the distinctive building.
The unique design is clad in 11,000 irregularly arranged stainless steel panels. The Tower is 56 meters high and was commissioned by Swiss collector Maja Hoffmann. The building boasts exhibition galleries, archives, a library, offices, seminar rooms, and a cafe. Moreover, the arts tower's lobby space is intersected by softly curved staircases. The architect's design was informed by Vincent Van Gogh's paintings and the nearby Roman amphitheater, which Baan captures in his photographs.
